Steps to Have Your Olive Oil Be USDA Organic Certified

Written by Hannah Broaddus | October 20, 2013

While we are a bulk supplier of authentic olive oil, we do like to provide resources from time to time for small businesses who create their own oils from scratch and sell at the retail level.

Someone on the USDA website had asked a question about how to obtain an application to have their Italian olive oil certified organic for retail sale in the Chicago or New York area.  It's a very simple and straightforward process, although there are several hoops one must jump through.  Our best advice are the following instructions taken directly from the USGovernment's site (with minor modifications because their instructions happened to be somewhat out of date):

  1. Go to this page.
  2. Click on the "more" link under the 'I want information on' tab on the right hand side of the page
  3. Click on ‘Accredited Certifying Agents (ACAs),' and then choose domestic or foreign, pick the state or country and select ‘Go'
  4. Choose a certifying agent from the lists, contact them and they will assist you in becoming certified organic.
Hopefully you'll find this information to be helpful whether you're importing Bulk Olive Oils or small quantities, or even making it at your own small business!
