How It's Made

Canola plants are grown from canola seeds that have not been genetically modified. The canola plant is made up of small yellow flowers which have small black seeds at their center. The plants are harvested and the seeds are removed and transported to the mill in a large truck. Before processing, the proteins in the seeds are tested to ensure that there is no trace of genetic material. This makes sure there was no GMO cross-contamination through wind or otherwise.

The non-gmo canola oil is expeller pressed using a physical press that squeezes the oil out of the seed. This process is a healthier alternative to most conventional canola oil extraction, which is typically a solvent-expelled process that uses harsh chemical solvents like hexane to draw the oil out of the seed.

After the oil is expelled pressed, it goes through a refining, bleaching and deodorizing process, which you can learn more about here. Then the oil is ready for use!
