Any of a group of natural esters of glycerol and various fatty acids, which are solid at room temperature (for example, palm or coconut oil).  This term is often used in conjunction with the term “oil” as they denote similar things — for example, someone who manages “fats and oils” would be someone who deals with lipids in both forms: fat (solid) and oil (liquid).
